I can wax lyrical about vintage linens for hours, but hopefully this will be informative rather than rambling. If this raises more questions than it answers, please feel free to contact me.
French bed linens divide into two fabric groups; pure linen and metis, the traditional linen/cotton mix. But of course it doesn’t stop there, these two fabrics come in many different guises, weights and colours.
Pure linen:
At the top end of the scale is “pur fil” which is the finest weight bedding linen and is deliciously smooth and fine. Then right at the other end of the scale is the heavy, rustic, knobbly homespun linen which you wouldn’t use as bedding these days but is fabulous for upholstery, cushions, curtains etc.
