We ended up down in Tournus the weekend before Easter. We hadn’t been there before and found it delightful, it’s right on the river Saone and well worth the little detour off the autoroute. There’s a market through the town on Saturday mornings which adds to the charm.
The origins of Tournus are Roman and there’s a Roman church surrounded by Renaissance streets, all beautifully maintained. We felt as though we were in one of the villages in the south of France – but then stunning sunny weather probably helped that. It was, however, extremely cold so please forgive the dodgy Clint Eastwood look!
