It does you good to have a day off every now and again and Royal Ascot is one of my favourites.  We chose to go on the first day and to me it’s the best day, filled with excitement and expectation of a great week’s racing.  And of course this year it was the only day with decent weather; we were sooooo lucky!

This year we were a small party of six but met up with friends in the Enclosure for tea.  Usual picnic in the car park first – Ma did the starter, I did the main, Meredith brought cheese and Jenny the pudding.  All delish of course and washed down with  dry martinis and some sparkling Burgundy from our neighbours in Cheilly.
